Kirov Region to cooperate with Denmark under Kyoto Protocol

The governments of the Kirov Region and the Kingdom of Denmark have agreed on long-term cooperation under the Kyoto Protocol, REGNUM is told at the regional government press center.

According to the press center, a treaty on purchase of emission cuts was signed between Kirov Regional State Enterprise Energy Efficiency Agency (Kirov region), the Danish Energy Agency of the Danish Ministry for Climate and Energy and the Northern Environmental Financial Corporation was signed at the Kirov Region government.

Governor Nikolai Shaklein, Kyoto Protocol program coordinator of the Denmark Energy Agency Jakob Linulf were present at the signing ceremony.

While signing the document, the sides noted that the event marks a start of the long-term cooperation between the governments of Denmark and Kirov Region that envisages joint effort to improve the environment. During the ceremony, the governor emphasized: "Implementation of provisions of the Kyoto Protocol will allow our region not only developing environmentally friendly technologies but will foster attracting extra investment resources into modernization projects of the regional energy complex."

As they state at the press center, three years of preparations preceded signature of the treaty, including transfer of 100 boiler-houses from coil and mazut to biomass-based fuels and natural gas.

The project envisages that greenhouse gas emissions in the territory of the region will reduce by more than 800,000 tons.
